Why
did you do this site?
The
easy answer is because Fay knows how to do it and could make
the site available to the family. The longer answer is Fay
is an only child with no parents or brothers or sisters and
precious few other relatives. Since Bob and Fay have no kids,
this is her way of giving back to the family.
Who
can use it?
Any relative of the Rosetta
and Carl Randen family and their descendents-husbands, wives,
significant others, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews.
How
do you see the site being used and what kind of information
can I put on the site?
This type of site
is new so we will be flexible on the content. Here are some
ideas to start with:
1.Family/Person
page -We envision a page where each person/family
group can provide information about themselves/family. This
would be the place that people would come to first to meet
you and find out how to contact you. We do not see this page
changing very often-maybe 1-2 times a year as things change
in your life. We have done a sample but you certainly do something
different.
2. Supplemental Sections - Some
relatives might want to provide more photographs of the family,
their hobbies, home, vacations etc. If we have writers, poets
and artists this would be a great place to feature their work.
3.
Message
Board
- This is one of the most fun page. This is where we see the
real sharing of the lives of the family happening. You leave
a message and everyone can see it and respond to it. Think
of it as the electronic version of writing letters, phone
conversations, email but something that is easily shared with
the rest of the family.
4. Chat
Room - The chat room is where we
can interact in real time. These will have to be scheduled
with whoever you want to chat with. We will be providing a
way for you to quickly email everyone that there will be a
chat session.
What
kind of information is not appropriate for the site?
That's an easy one.
1.
This is a family site. Please show courtesy to your family
members and refrain from using graphics and language that
may be offensive.
2. This is a personal site, not a business site. It is encouraged
that you include information on your hobbies, work and organizations
you belong to. A paragraph of a money raising activity that
you have is OK, links to other web sites is OK but this is
not the place to put up a commerce site.
Will
Fay be doing everything for us? Will she write all our information?
Fay will help you get started
but this needs to be easy for her. What you send is what will
be put up (see the question below).
How
do I get my information on the site?
1.
I tried to make it very easy to add information.Go to the
introduction
page to provide information about you and your family or to
the add a memory page to tell about
something special you remember about one of the family.
2.
Send email- Write what ever you
want put on the wepage in an email and send it to Fay. Provide
enough information so that Fay knows where you want it to
go. Send photographs as an attachment. There will be very
little formatting of the information, no color text, bold,
etc. Fay will just copy and paste it on to the appropriate
page.
2.
Put it in
a word processing document and send it to Fay. Keep away from
fancy formatting with tables, columns, etc. Just keep it simple
