"Of all my wife's relations I like myself the best." -- Joe Cook

When Carl first arrived in America. in 1894, he lived with Lewis Hermanson in New Sweden Township, Nicollet county, Minnesota. He was naturalized December 7, 1899 in St. Peter, MN. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter in 1899 - 10 March 1900, taking courses to complete high school. Carl courted Rosetta between 1906 until1908, when they married. He went to work at the Courtland Creamery May 7, 1907. His work as a buttermaker, probably contributed to his death of tuberculosis 15 days short of his fifty-first birthday on February 6, 1924, at the state sanitarium called "Agwa Ching" near Walker, MN (in Room 5038.) The cause of his death was listed as Pulmonary Tuberculosis.

Carl's brother Nels lived Minnesota on Lake Vermilion, near Walker, MN in Cass County. He is buried in Remer, MN, with no headstone.
